It’s week 2 of One Room Challenge and we JUST demoed our half bathroom! Yep… there’s 5 weeks left to finish our half bath for the challenge and we just demoed it. We’re not worried though. We do everything a little last minute. I always say I work better under pressure. Plus, Mike is a miracle worker.
We’re partnering with Bed Bath & Beyond for most of our items for the bathroom. My only worry is getting them here on time and then getting them placed into the bathroom on time. I’m also a little anxious about the tile we got from Riad Tile. It’s gorgeous.. but it’s hand made and a little more intricate than the average Home Depot tile. I cannot wait to see that pink tile in there. (insert emoji heart face)
PS. I still don’t know what I’m doing with the wallpaper.
HERE ARE THE STEPS WE TOOK
I just asked Mike what the first steps of demo were and he said P.P.E. (personal protective equipment?) ha! Typical construction worker response. Except Mike usually works in socks and no mask… then I have to yell at him.
So… first step: Protect yo’self. (glasses, gloves, mouth mask, earplugs etc)
- Remove the sink and toilet
- Remove all of the sheetrock
We took it right down to the studs. We removed all of the walls and the ceiling. I definitely wanted to remove the ceiling because it was a popcorn ceiling. Mike used a hammer and crowbar to remove it. Then you just have to remove all the nail / screws. - Clean up – not fun- self explanitory
- Remove flooring with a chipping gun
This part gets messy so I taped Mike into the bathroom with a big plastic sheet and opened the window up in there. It gets really messy. We learned that the hard way when we removed the tile from our kitchen and had to clean up dust for months.
Our next plan is to finish putting up the sheetrock, tape, and spackle. After the spackle is all dry and sanded I’ll be able to prime and paint 🙂
We had a wall sconce above the mirror in there before. You can see if in my orc week 1 post. It was quite terrible. It was some sort of frankenlight. I tried to DIY a light fixture and both times it came out ugly. Oh well.. it’s a goner now. Mike moved the electric for the new lighting because I’m moving it to the ceiling. The light I chose is a pendent instead of a wall sconce. Hopefully I don’t decide last minute that I want a wall sconce. hehe
Along with moving the lighting.. we may have to move some minor plumbing. We’re waiting for our faucet from Bed bath and beyond to come in to see where the placement will be. We also have to outfit the window (trim and window sill)
After alllll of that we can then put the flooring in. Did I mention how excited I am about our Nola tiles from Riad Tile? If I didn’t…. I’m so exicited! The flooring update next week (or the next) is going to be a detailed one! I’m just a little nervous about that project but we’ll see soon right?
Until next time friends…
In the meantime check out all the other talented guests participating in the ORC!
