We recently started refinishing our “dog room”. The dog room is basically our garage that was converted into a room. When we moved in it was being used as a media room or movie room. The walls were red. (That’s a no from me) It was basically just terrible. A dark red room– 50 shades style. It was creepy looking to say the least. We painted of course and boxed out the copper pipe that was running along the wall. The box around the pipe looked like a big chunky shelf. We dealt with that look for a while mainly because our dogs sleep in there and we never really hung out in there.
My fiance, Mike has a salt water fish tank. So here comes the dilemma. When we moved in we quickly realized we didn’t really have room for the fish tank out in the main living area. Mike moved it into the “dog room” and eventually built it into the wall. So now we have a beautiful fish tank in this hideous room. I have to admit I’m not the biggest fan of the fish tank when it comes to decor. It’s not my first go to when decorating a room. “Oh this room could really use a fish tank”…no. However, Mike loves his fish tank and it’s his hobby and that makes me happy. I wanted him to have a cool place to hang out instead of a weird dark cave room.
QUICK PRO TIP: If you’re buying a house and you plan on redoing rooms… TAKE PHOTOS! Take photos of every single area even if it looks like dog doo doo because you will regret not having before photos. My constant regret.
If you know me, you know I have decor ADD. I’m constantly updating little things in our home so I’m surprised this room went so long without getting any attention. A couple months ago we finally started doing some work in there. Mike is extremely handy so he built a wall in front of the previous wall with the pipe in front of it. He also added a window to the room which was a game changer. There’s so much natural light in there now. That means we can put plants in there now! YAY!
The only thing that was missing is decor. I’m so happy to have partnered with All Modern for the decor in this room. They had absolutely everything I was looking for… plus more!
BEFORE
Here’s ONE before photo and it’s still not even all the way before. You can see the red room of pain color popping out on the top though. It’s right above the horrendous yellow I chose which is over the horrendous green I chose. That wall has been painted 3 times by me. (sigh)
You can see the awkward bump out we built around the copper pipe though.
This is the futon we had in there before All Modern gave us hope and sanity. I literally had that futon since high school and has now been given away.. thank god.
This is after Mike built the new wall and put in the window. The window adds SOOOO much light. It was an actual cave before.
OK, the best part…AFTER PHOTOS!
Thank you so much, All Modern for helping us make this room amazing!
One of my favorite items from All Modern is the Ibrahima hand tufted shag rug!
Mike will be so happy to know that his fish tank made the cut. Comment about his fish tank on my Instagram photo and I’ll be sure to video him reading the comments. ha
Above is the DIY brick wall we put in.
Let’s face it, we all can’t live in a swanky Brooklyn apartment. Did I just say swanky? Mike and I were at Home Depot not too long ago and we saw these sheets of faux brick. I knew I definitely wanted to use them in my home, I just wasn’t sure where. When I started picking furniture from All Modern, my vision was so clear that I had to use it in the “dog room”.
Read the blog post to learn how to install your own.
I’m completely in love with this rattan chair from All Modern. It’s also so comfy!
Our 7′ cactus that I’m afraid to cut. We got it from a lady on Craigslist. It’s over 30 years old! So any advice you have, leave in the comments.
If you’re redecorating a room and you’re looking for decor, check out All Modern! They literally have anything you could ever need/want. It made decorating this room super easy because All Modern was a one stop shopping resource.
Go check them out.
xx.

July 17, 2017 at 9:24 pmI LOLEd about the fish tank. I never think of those either when I’m decorating. I can’t believe the transformation of this room. It looks amazing. I love the painted ceiling and I can’t believe you found a guy handy enough to build walls or put in windows. One lucky girl!
