DIY Home Decor

Easy and Affordable Curb Appeal

We finally updated out front door area a little bit. We’ve lived in our home almost 6 years and haven’t spent much time working on the outside. I finally painted the front door a couple years ago (PINK!) and painted the concrete slab outside of the front door but it still didn’t look put together. I decided I wanted a more classic color for the front door on the outside… kinda like business on the front, party on the back.

Our Home Story

This is our first home. It doesn’t have the dream entrance I always dream of BUT I love our home. I wasn’t planning on being a blogger when we first moved in. I was more-so just trying to get out of our crappy apartment. When I initially drove by the first time I thought it was bizarre that the door was on the side of the house. I imagined getting run over as mike was trying to pull into the garage but then I found out the garage was converted into a room so we wouldn’t be using the garage anyway. Maybe our next or “forever home” will have the wrap around porch and steps I always wanted. I’m just happy to have a home in general so no complaints over here lol.

Paint

I went with a black matte paint for the front door and garage. The color is called Black by Behr from Home Depot. I thought the matte would be a cool choice, which it is, except you can see marks on it really easy. So I would suggest going with something a little more glossy like Satin. The marks probably won’t show up as much with that.

Garage Door

We also decided to paint the garage door. This was initially Mike’s idea and after doing some thinking I thought it would look really nice. It gives the very minimal front entrance a little more pizzazz. LOL. We also scraped the paint off of the windows on the garage. The rest of the square are not glass. I think it makes it look a little more classy except you can see all of our junk now. As soon as we get a new shed that should empty out a little more.

Plant & Planter

I got the planter from Home Sense (sister store of HomeGoods). It was $70. and the plant is from the local nursery. I believe it’s called a Eugenia Poodle Topiary. *poodle hehe* I got the moss from Home Depot but it kinda turns a yellowish color or fades a lot after being watered.

Cement

We painted the cement slab a couple years ago which is why it doesn’t look super fresh and bright but I’m okay with the “lived in” look. You can find cement paint at Home Depot. I believe we used Ice White by Behr.

Let me know if you have ANY more questions or comments below. I hope you’re inspired to transform your front entrance. Don’t worry if its not your DREAM home. It can still be beautiful. You’ll feel happier to come home to it and your neighbors and UPS driver will love it too.

XO,
Cara

Hi! So sorry I’m just seeing this now! The light is from IKEA. Not made for outdoors. It’s under the roof part so it’s ok but definitely not out in the elements!
